Nevada Health Centers, Inc. needs your support today to help us complete the construction of two new community health centers in Carson City and Las Vegas. These two health centers will serve over 10,000 low-to-moderate income patients in Nevada each year.

Buy purchasing a brick for a donation of $100, $350 or $500, you can leave a lasting legacy in your community and visibly demonstrate your support of affordable and accessible health care for all people. The bricks will pave the path leading to the front entrance of each health center. Each brick offers up to four lines of engraved text for your business name, your name, or for commemorating family, friends or a favorite quote.

More than half a million Nevadans are living without health insurance.
The need for affordable and accessible health care is higher than ever before. During such an uncertain time for so many people, keeping healthy and avoiding expensive trips to the emergency room or extensive hospital stays is imperative. Community health centers are a proven way to provide quality healthcare that is affordable.

In 2010, Nevada Health Centers was the recipient of a capital grant through the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration.  This generous grant will cover most, but not all, of the cost to build these two health centers.  We still need to raise funds and are counting on the community to help.

There are two easy ways to purchase a brick:

1.      Click on the link, Legacy Paving and look for the “Quick Order” blue box on the right side of the webpage.  From the drop down boxes, select Nevada for the state, either Carson City or Las Vegas for the city, and Nevada Health Centers for the organization and brick amount.  Follow the screen instructions to complete your order.

2.      Click here to download a printable order form.  Print, complete and return the form to:

Nevada Health Centers breaks ground on new site

Ground was broken Wednesday for the new location of the Sierra Family Health Center that serves Carson City. When complete, the health center will relocate to 3325 Research Way.

The ceremony was presided over by Mayor Bob Crowell and Tom Chase, chief executive officer of Nevada Health Centers, Inc. The majority of the funding was awarded from a grant through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. An additional donation of $12,000 was given through a Community Support Grant from Carson City to purchase medical exam room furniture and equipment.

The building will have 19,000-square-feet of space for the Sierra Family Health Center on the ground floor, and administrative offices on the top floor. A capital campaign is being launched to cover the cost of the land and other costs not awarded in the grant.

National Health Center Week

National Health Center Week August 7-13, 2011 Celebrating America’s Health Centers Serving Locally, Leading Nationally

Celebrating America's Health Centers: Serving Locally, Leading Nationally" is our theme for National Health Center Week 2011. This theme highlights the more than 45 year record of Health Centers in providing affordable, high quality, cost-effective health care to all people, regardless of ability to pay. National Health Center Week 2011 also provides an opportunity to focus on the progress we have made towards fulfilling the goal of our "Access for All America" plan to provide a health care home to 30 million patients by 2015. Each year Health Center Week also sets aside three days to focus on special populations who are often left outside of the mainstream health care system.

Thank you in advance for your support of National Health Center Week. For more information, please contact Paula Guzman: 775-888-6625 or pguzman@nvhealthcenters.org

Capital Campaign for Carlin Community Health Center

In 2008 the City of Carlin donated land to Nevada Health Centers for the purpose of building a new health center. NVHC's current health center in Carlin is out dated and too small for the number of patients we see. In 2009 we hope to raise enough money to build a health center right next to the new senior center and the planned new library. The new health center will be more centrally located and will be designed to better accommodate the growing population of Carlin. We will have three exam rooms, an x-ray room, a dispensary for medications and an emergency room. Watch the web site as we post our progress. To make a donation to our Carlin Capital Campaign, please go to our donation page.

Electronic Health Records

Thanks to very generous funding from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) and the Lincy Foundation, NVHC is implementing electronic health records (EHR) at all of our health center sites. EHR improves quality of patient care in many ways. First of all, the medical record is never lost and the medical record can be accessed from various sites. Some people visit our different clinic sites due to geographical moves or because they are visiting a new town or a new part of town. As long as they visit one of NVHC's health centers their medical record will always be available. The EHR system also works with the providers to remind them of when it is time for various patient preventive exams, patient tests, and how frequent a patient should be seen. Prescriptions can be sent electronically to pharmacies and results of lab work will transfer right in to the patient record. In addition EHR improves billing, coding and appointment making. NVHC currently can transfer our OB patient records directly to the hospital where they will deliver. In the future we hope to be able to do this for our patients that are having surgery or other hospitalizations. EHR also provides us with population based data about the health of our patients and about the quality of medical care that is being delivered. All of our sites will be using EHR by April of 2009!

Quality Measures Study

Nevada Health Centers is embarking on a new five year quality measures study through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). This study will be done at most community health centers throughout the nation and results will be used to measure the quality of patient care from health center to health center and from year to year. Six measures of study were chosen by HRSA and they include: 1) Blood pressure levels in patients diagnosed with hypertension, 2) Hemoglobin A-1C levels in diabetic patients, 3) Frequency of Pap smears in adult women, 4) Trimester of pregnancy when women enter prenatal care,5) Birth weight of new born babies 6) Immunization rates of two year olds. NVHC will also study 1) depression, 2) oral health education and 3) childhood obesity. Each year NVHC will expand our study by adding one or two measures. The object is to actually look at the health of the patient not just the frequency of patient visits. The electronic health record system will be an asset to collecting the data for the study.
